Anna Dinkel is a fashion illustrator and live event artist based in San Diego, creating original artwork for luxury brands, fashion events, and unforgettable celebrations.
Her work has taken her from the runways of Paris, London, and New York to luxury brand activations and private events, where she creates illustrations live, often in just a few minutes.
Her clients have included Dior, Prada, Bottega Veneta, and other fashion and beauty brands.
But Anna’s relationship with fashion and art began long before any of those names appeared on her client list.
Anna grew up in Kazan, USSR, where winters could last for half the year. As a child, she spent hours drawing, inspired by a large book of photographs of the Bolshoi Ballet and by an aunt whose love of fashion stood out in a culture where fashion was largely homemade.
She started drawing paper dolls and designing clothes, then enrolled in an after-school art program and continued studying art throughout her school years.
By the time she entered college, pursuing art felt less like a choice and more like an obvious next step.
She studied art, design, and craftwork before earning a Master’s degree in Architecture. Although architecture gave her a rigorous foundation in design and visual thinking, fashion continued to pull her in another direction.
She eventually moved to Moscow, joined a fashion design studio, and later studied brand management in the fashion industry.
Her career began to take shape at the intersection of fashion, business, and creativity.
Anna went on to manage a fashion boutique, where she worked closely with designers, clients, and the constantly changing world of fashion.
It was an experience that taught her something she still brings to her work today: great fashion is not just about what something looks like. It is about how it makes people feel.
She traveled to fashion events, built relationships throughout the industry, and developed a deep understanding of fashion audiences and the environments in which brands connect with them.
Then, after moving to the United States in 2013, Anna returned to something she had loved all along: drawing.
What started as a reconnection with an old passion quickly became a new career.
Moving to the United States meant rebuilding her life in her 40s, learning a new language, and figuring out what came next.
Then came an experience that could have ended her artistic career before it really began.
A serious car accident left Anna with multiple fractures in her dominant right wrist. For almost a year, she couldn’t draw.
There were no guarantees that she would regain full movement in her hand.
During her recovery, she made herself a promise: she would draw again.
Little by little, through surgery, rehabilitation, and physical therapy, movement returned. Nearly a year later, Anna was able to hold a pencil again.
That first sketch meant more than simply getting back to work. It reminded her how much drawing mattered.
She never stopped.
Anna began attending life drawing sessions, studying the human figure from observation and pushing herself to develop a more expressive approach.
Then she discovered fashion illustration. It brought together everything she had loved throughout her life: fashion, drawing, movement, people, and storytelling.
Her work soon took her into the world of fashion weeks, where she illustrated runway shows and presentations in Paris, London, New York, and San Diego.
A breakthrough opportunity came when she submitted her portfolio for the chance to illustrate at Paris Fashion Week. She was accepted.
Not long afterward, she was invited to create live illustrations for a luxury brand’s in-store activation. That opened a new chapter.
Today, Anna creates live illustrations for luxury fashion and beauty brands, retail activations, corporate events, and private celebrations.
For Anna, the magic isn’t only in the finished artwork.
It is in watching a blank sheet of paper become something unexpected in just a few minutes.
Guests can stand beside her and watch the process unfold. They see the lines appear, the figure take shape, and the final details come together. They become part of the creative moment.
In a world increasingly filled with digital and AI-generated imagery, Anna believes there is something especially valuable about one-of-a-kind artwork created by hand, in real time, by a real person.
That is what makes live illustration more than entertainment.
It becomes an experience.
Anna’s background is unusual, and she considers that an advantage.
She has studied architecture and design. She has worked in fashion retail and brand management. She has been a fashion model. She has spent years studying the human figure and developing her own approach to fashion illustration and portraiture.
All of those experiences inform the way she works today.
She understands how to read an event, how to work with different audiences, and how to create artwork that feels at home in a sophisticated environment.
She also knows that sometimes the subject is a guest, and sometimes it is a product, a fashion look, or a detail that captures the spirit of the event.
Her job is to see what makes the moment interesting and translate it into art.
Anna primarily works with pastels and charcoal, while also experimenting with watercolor, ink, and unconventional materials such as black coffee.
Her style is expressive rather than overly literal, capturing movement, character, and mood while leaving room for the personality of the subject to come through.

Live event illustration is Anna’s professional focus, but her artistic practice continues beyond events.
